This articletraces the history of “Humewood”, a 50-acre estate north of present-day St. Clair Avenue and Christie Street. The Blakes, a family prominent in Toronto’s legal history, lived there from about 1860 to 1912, when the property was purchased by St. Thomas Anglican Church to be used as a home for unmarried pregnant women. Archival images included show the transformation of the area over the course of 150 years.
